Why Southern Maine Men's Basketball League?

* Draft, which makes teams as evenly matched as possible - setting up a lot of competitive and close games.

* Stats (running tally of total assists, rebounds, steals, points, and all of those averages per game.  Field goal, free throw, and three point shooting percentages will also be tracked)

League

-Games played at Acton School (700 Milton Mills Rd Acton, Maine)

-Court is 72 feet by 48 feet

-12 game season (additional games for playoff teams)

-Top 4 teams make playoffs (4 seed plays 1 the seed first team to win 2 games advances to championship against the winner of the 2 seed vs 3 seed first to win 2 games series)

-Tie Breakers for end of season standings first is head to head match up winner and 2nd tie breaker is +- point differential in head to head games.   If rare case still a tie in either of these situations then coin flip will be the decider.

Rules

-20 minute halves, running time

-Stop time only for time outs/ injuries and intentional/flagrant/technical fouls. 

-Last minute of each half time stops on all fouls and when the ball goes out of bounds as well.  Time stops on a made basket in the last minute of the GAME.

- clock starts when the ball is touched by a player on the court or touches a player on the court.

- 2 full timeouts per game

- 2 minute overtime.  Team can use 1 "overtime timeout". 

- RULE CHANGE FROM LAST SEASON: on the 6th team foul per half, the opposing team will shoot free throws.  (all 2 shots - NO 1&1)  (NBA PER QUARTER RULE)

-6 personal fouls is a foul out (NBA RULE)

- Can advance the ball to mid court on a timeout in the last minute of regulation or overtime. (NBA RULE)

-Technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct is a $10 fine. 2 unsportsmanlike conduct technicals then are out for game and can't play next game until $20 fine is paid. 3rd T $40 4th T $80 5th T kicked out of league.

-IMPORTANT! : Team Captains need to notify me if they do NOT have enough players to field a team 12 hours before start time, failure to do so will be a $75 fine.    If do not pay the fine then will no longer be able to participate in the league.  COMMUNICATE with your team if you cannot make a game! Not fair to have guys drive here without a team to play! 

-IF a team shows up with 4 or 5 players  and they WANT to play 4v4 instead then the game will be 4v4.  All other games will be 5v5.

-No rules for playing time however team captains understand that everyone has paid to play.  If player does not feel they are playing a fair amount then you, the team captain and I will put together a plan that is fair to all.

-IF playing 5v5 and your 5th player fouls out, or playing 4v4 and your 4th player fouls out THEN that player stays in the game, but every time they foul is a TECHNICAL foul. (2 shots and the ball for opposing team)

IF you're playing 5v5 and your 5th player gets hurt you can immediately go to 4v4.  If you are playing 4v4 and your 4th player gets hurt you can play with 3 players, and play 3v4.  As long as you start the game with atleast 4 players.  If 4 Players are not at the game by 5 minutes after game time, it is a FORFEIT!

THE MAIN OFFICIAL CAN OVERRULE A SCOREBOOK/ CLOCK ERROR

IF THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE END RESULT TO A GAME IT NEEDS TO BE DISCUSSED RIGHT AFTER THE GAME.  IF ONE OF THESE 3 OCCURS THEN THE GAME IS OFFICIALLY OVER AND NO CHANGING THE OUTCOME: 10 MIN HAS PASSED, THE NEXT GAME HAS STARTED, OR PLAYERS HAVE LEFT THE GYM SO THAT YOU CANNOT FINISH THE GAME (5v5 if it was 5v5) (4v4 if it was 4v4).

ANY OTHER SITUATIONS THAT COME UP WILL BE FOLLOWED BY THE OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL FEDERATION BASKETBALL RULES AND REGULATIONS.

-Once you sign up for the league it is non refundable

CAN A TEAM PICK UP PLAYERS DURING THE SEASON?

There will be one designated date that is exactly halfway through the regular season where teams have the option if they would like to add a player/s to their roster or not.  If a team chooses to do so then I will look into players who are interested in joining and add them to the teams that makes the most sense.   Example: If a team loses a 1st or 2nd round draft pick in the first half of the season then they will get a player that best fits that level of play, If a team loses a 5th or 6th round draft pick then they would get the player that best fits that level of play.   

If a team wants to add a player at another point it is only OK if 100% of team captains decide that it's ok.
